Participation of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) in the anniversary evening «Mastership Inspired and Learned»

On November 12, 2025, Minsk Secondary School No.4 hosted the anniversary evening «Mastership Inspired and Learned», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Belarusian composer, Honored Artist of the BSSR, and People’s Artist of the BSSR Yuri Vladimirovich Semenyako.

The event was organized by the Belarusian Society of Archivists (hereinafter referred to as BOA) and the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMLI), in collaboration with Minsk Secondary School No.4 and the N.I.Aladov Children’s Music and Arts School No.2 in Minsk.

Special guests at the event included the composer’s daughter, I.Yu.Semenyako, and I.O.Kulagina, head of the youth section of the Belarusian Union of Composers.

The opening remarks were delivered by E.A.Makarenko, Director of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) and Chair of the Belarusian Society of Archivists. She emphasized that the archive-museum is one of the country’s unique archival institutions, housing documents of the Belarusian Union of Composers and personal collections of artists who have made significant contributions to the development of national musical culture. Collaboration with children’s music schools and secondary schools specializing in music will allow for the wider dissemination of these documents and spark interest in Belarusian music among the younger generation. E.A.Makarenko expressed hope that the anniversary evening dedicated to Yuri Semenyako will mark the beginning of a series of meetings dedicated to renowned Belarusian composers.

V.V.Birulya, Head of the Information, Publication, and Document Use Department at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI), presented a virtual exhibition, «Mastership Inspired, Learned», prepared using the composer’s personal documents from the BSAMLI collection. It features documents illustrating the composer’s creative path and public activities, including sheet music manuscripts, playbills and programs for performances, letters of thanks, congratulatory telegrams, and letters.

The evening featured a variety of musical performances by teachers and students from Secondary School No.4 and the N.I.Aladov Children’s Music School of the Arts No.2. They performed works set to music by Yuri Semenyako, including the galop from the opera «Kaluchaya Rozha» and the song «I Love You, Belaya Rus».

BSAMLI sincerely thanks all participants of the anniversary evening, which confirmed that the legacy of Yuri Vladimirovich Semenyako continues to live on, resonate, and nurture new generations of musicians.
