On the event held at the State Archives of the Gomel Region as part of the republican campaign «Archives for School»

On June 3, 2025, the State Archives of the Gomel Region held an event for 8th grade students who spend their summer vacations usefully at the labor camp of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75 of Gomel». Archive specialists organized a tour of the archive storage facility and laboratory for the students. Head of the Document Records and Preservation Department Svetlana Primakova and laboratory specialists Galina Gromiko and Valentina Chekan told the students about how archival documents are stored and restored. In the archive’s reading room, senior researcher Maya Vaschenko introduced the students to documents from the period of the Great Patriotic War – filtration cases of citizens forcibly taken to Nazi Germany. Of particular interest in the documents were the autobiographies of people, which described the difficult events of the war years. She also spoke about the documents perpetuating the memory of heroes, which are presented at the exhibition «80 Years of Victory! Glory is Carved into Granite». Before the demonstration of the documentary film «History of the Great Victory» by BGAKFFD, Maya Vashchenko told schoolchildren about how the filming of military events was carried out. Thanks to the feat of military cameramen, the modern generation has the opportunity to see unique footage of the war chronicle.
