In 2025, it will be 100 years since the foundation of the Berezina Biosphere Reserve.

The history of the creation of the reserve dates back to 1924, when the People’s Commissariat of Agriculture of the BSSR sent a group of scientists to the area of the village of Berezino and the river of the same name, who were to determine the possibility of organizing a hunting reserve in this territory. As a result of the commission’s work, the Berezina State Reserve was created in the Berezina River basin on the border of the Vitebsk and Minsk regions. The center of the reserve was the village of Domzheritsy, Lepel district.

For the 100th anniversary of the Berezina Biosphere Reserve, a promotional video was posted on the YouTube channel of the BGAKFFD.

Currently, the funds of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents contain more than 180 units of photographic documents from 1963 to 2018 and about 20 units of film documents from 1951 to 2013, related to the Berezinsky Reserve.

Photo and film documents (stories from the newsreels «Savetskaya Belarus», documentaries «Berezinsky Reserve», 1965, «Forest Motifs», 1975, «Nature’s Temple Not Made by Hands», 1989, «In the Kingdom of Cormorants and Herons», 2001, «Why is the Beaver’s Nose Scratched?», 2002, «The Path of the Wolf», 2007, video programs «Video of the Encyclopedia of Belarus. Byarezinsky Byaspheric Reserve», 2013) allow us to see the inhabitants of the reserve in their natural environment, rangers and researchers of the reserve at work, and enjoy the beauty of untouched nature.

In 1979, the Berezinsky Reserve was granted the status of a biosphere reserve.

Nowadays, nature conservation, scientific, ecological-educational, tourist and commercial activities are carried out in the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve.
