The Feat of the People – in Documents and Hearts: Events for the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory in the Central Laboratory
On April 24, 2025, the Central Laboratory for the Preservation of Documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus held a Single Information Day on the theme «The Feat of the People to Live for Centuries», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
Paying tribute to the heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the event united the employees of the institution to honor the memory of the heroes who defended the freedom of the Motherland and emphasize the importance of preserving the historical truth in the face of modern challenges.
Opening the meeting, the director of the Central Laboratory V.L.Klyuiko noted the inextricable link between archival documents and the memory of the war. «Each document from the war years that we have restored is not just paper, but living evidence of the tragedy and the unbending will of our people. We are obliged to protect this evidence from attempts at falsification so that future generations know the truth about the price of Victory», he emphasized.
Deputy Director S.I.Mezga in his speech focused on the role of archivists in patriotic education: «Today, when countries unfriendly to us are trying to rewrite history, our task is to preserve authentic evidence of the feat and this is our contribution to the struggle for historical justice».
The culmination of the event was the viewing of the documentary film «History of the Great Victory», created by BGAKFFD with the support of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus. The film, based on unique archival materials, recreated the key stages of the war on the territory of Belarus: the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress, the large-scale operation «Bagration», the partisan «rail war» and the legendary Victory Parade of 1945 in Moscow.
The series of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War will be continued – the participation of representatives of the Central Laboratory in the thematic quiz «Glory – not to fade. Traditions Live!», in a screening of the film dilogy «Death Camps» and «Burnt Villages», in holding Memory Lessons and showing the documentary film «History of the Great Victory» in sponsored educational institutions, as well as participation in the event of laying flowers at the monument to the Unknown Soldier at the Military Cemetery of Minsk.
