Exhibition «Mikhas Lynkov: To Great Praise» for the 125th Anniversary of the People’s Writer Mikhas Lynkov at the BGAMLI


November 30, 2024 marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of the people’s writer, classic of Belarusian Soviet literature Mikhail Tikhanovich Lynkov, or, as he himself signed his works, Mikhas Lynkov.

The writer’s fate largely reflects the difficult historical era in which he lived. In 1917, M.Lynkov graduated from the Ragachev Teachers’ Seminary. In 1919-1922, he served in the Red Army. An important stage in his life was his work in the Bobruisk regional newspaper «Kommunist» in 1925-1930, which formed him into an excellent journalist and writer. He was an active member of the literary association «Maladnyak», in 1938-1948 headed the Union of Soviet Writers of the BSSR, during the Great Patriotic War he worked as a war correspondent, edited front-line newspapers and at the same time proved himself to be an excellent organizer and literary critic. In 1945, he became a correspondent of the international Belarusian delegation at the United Nations Conference in San Francisco and witnessed the signing of the UN Charter by our country. Until the end of his life in 1975, M. Lynkov maintained active social activities, for many years headed the Institute of Literature, Language and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, and was repeatedly elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR.

M.Lynkov began his writing career as a poet, but became famous as a master of prose with his characteristic technique of description with an emphasis on the development of an event. He wrote the stories «Goy», «Andrey Lyatun», «Astap», «Vasilki», the stories «On the Red Crosses», «Mikolka-Locomotive», «Agni Tanganyiki», and the epic novel «Memorable Days», which were significant for his time. As a writer and literary critic, M. Lynkov had a significant influence on his contemporaries, and later on Belarusian writers and readers of the post-war generation.

The Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art prepared an exhibition «Mikhas Lynkov: To Great Praise» for the anniversary of the national writer, which presents documents dedicated to his biography, writing, journalistic and social activities. One of the first, critically minded and at the same time grateful visitors was the writer’s son, an outstanding Belarusian scientist, Doctor of Technical Sciences Leonid Mikhailovich Lynkov.
