Exhibition of archival documents «Partisan Republic»

On December 13, 2023, a meeting of the joint board of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation was held in the Minsk City Hall. As part of this event, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus prepared an exhibition of archival documents «Partisan Republic».

Our country received the right to be called a partisan republic for its unprecedented patriotic movement in one of the most difficult periods of history – during the Great Patriotic War. During the years of Hitler’s occupation, over 1,200 partisan detachments operated on the territory of Belarus, where more than 370 thousand people’s avengers fought, who, with their decisive actions, thwarted the Nazis’ plans to plunder Belarusian lands and kidnap civilians into slavery, and prevented the establishment of enemy orders here.

Head Department M.A.Starostenko presented unique documents reflecting the facts of the courage and heroism of our compatriots during the war: diaries of combat operations, histories of partisan detachments and brigades, drawings of partisan artists, award sheets and characteristics of a participant in the partisan movement, Hero of the Soviet Union M. A. Egorova, who together with ml. Sergeant M.V. Kantaria hoisted the Victory Banner on the Reichstag building on May 1, 1945 and the leader of the underground group in Gomel, Hero of the Soviet Union T.S. Borodin, as well as the personal files of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, which are carefully stored in the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.
