On the event in the framework of the “Archives for School” campaign

On February 09, 2022, the head of the information and documents department M. V. Zakovrash and leading archaeographer S. A. Zharnosenko at the Local State Archives in Rechitsa, in the framework of the “Archives for School” campaign held a lecture “Dmitry Danilovich Valentik – military pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union” at the information hour in secondary school № 11 of Rechitsa, Gomel Region.

The archivists met with 9th grade students in the school library. They told the students about the life and participation in the Soviet-Finnish, Great Patriotic and Soviet-Japanese wars of the military pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Valentik (1907 – 1969), whose 115th birthday will be marked on February 23. Not only the general biographical data, but also separate episodes from the war pages of Dmitry Valentik were narrated to the young people, which allowed them to know more about the hero as a man and a soldier. At the end of the lecture the speakers answered the questions and after that the students got acquainted with the documents presented at the lecture from Dmitry Valentik’s personal collection permanently stored in the Rechitsa State Archives.

In addition, the archivists informed the audience that the first stage of the “Young Archivist” competition for students in grades 8-11 is currently taking place in the Gomel region, organized by the main education department, the main justice department and the main department of ideological work, culture and youth affairs at the Gomel Regional Executive Committee. They offered the students to try their hand in compiling research papers for the contest about the historical events that took place in the Gomel region and expressed willingness to provide archival and historical documents available in the archive for this purpose.
