The Department for Archives and Records Management held a board meeting

The Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus (the Department) held a board meeting to discuss issues related to work of the Department and the state archives in handling administrative procedures in 2019 and on the state of the centralized inventory of documents held at the state archival institutions in the period of 2014-2018.

In January – October 2019 the state archives examined 4 346 social-legal inquiries from citizens for issuance of archival certificates (archival copies, archival extracts, reference letters). 4 211 inquiries came from citizens of the Republic of Belarus; 135 – from foreign citizens and persons without citizenship, temporarily staying, temporarily and permanently residing in the Republic of Belarus. 3 811 inquiries concerned archive documents not containing privacy information; 535 inquiries concerned privacy documents. 1 990 inquiries concerned property and inheritance rights.

On the second issue the Board has noted that the present system of the centralized state inventory of documents serves an important means of control over records availability, conditions and circulation and a source of information about the amount and contents of archival holdings.

The three-level structure of the centralized state inventory system, including the Department, the records and archives subdivisions at the regional executive committees and the state archival institutions, is successfully functioning.
