An international scholarly conference “The Gomel Palace and Castle Ensemble: from the manor estate to the museum complex”

An international scholarly conference “The Gomel Palace and Castle Ensemble: from the manor estate to the museum complex” took place at Gomel to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Palace and Castle Complex at Gomel.

On 5-6 November 2019 the Palace and Castle Complex at Gomel brought together scholars, historians, art critics, archivists and museum workers from Belarus and Russia. The conference reports were focused on the history of the Gomel estate in different periods, the life of its owners, the palace collection of art works and documents relating to the objects of the Gomel Palace and Castle Complex. The archives branch was represented by reports by Ganna Zapartyka, Director of the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art and Veranika Musvidas, Head of Information and Use of Documents at the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

The conference participants acquainted with the objects of the Gomel Palace and Castle Complex, the museum expositions at the Palace of the Rumyantsevs and the Paskeviches, and a jubilee exhibition “The museum histories”.

An illustrated book of scholarly papers has been specially prepared to mark the event.
