16th EURASICA General Conference of the International Council on Archives held in Kazan, Russian Federation

The 16th General Conference of the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA) and a regular session of the Consultative Council of the heads of the state archival services of CIS member countries were held in Kazan, Russian Federation, on 6-8 October 2015.

Participants at the events were delegations of archivists from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Uzbekistan, and Poland and Finland as observers.

Attendees from the Belarusian side were Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V. Adamushko (delegation head), Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB) V. Kourash, Director of the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings (BGAKFFD) V. Balandin, and Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus (NIAB) D. Yatsevich.

At the regular session of the Consultative Council the representatives of each country made a report on the development of archive business in the past year. Head of the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation A. Artizov was elected Chairman of the Consultative Council for the next year.

The 16th EURASICA General Conference reviewed the implementation of the action plan of ICA Eurasian branch for 2013-2016 and other issues.

The next, 17th EURASICA General Conference and the next session of the Consultative Council will take place in 2016 in the Republic of Belarus.

A part of the event was an international scholarly conference “The urgent issues in the use of records”. Belarusian reports on the topic included “The use of records in the state archives of the Republic of Belarus” (Department Director V. Adamushko), “The use of records of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus in publications and exhibitions” (NARB Director V. Kourash), “The topical issues in the use of audiovisual records of the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings” (BGAKFFD Director V. Balandin), and “The use of records in providing archival services at the National Historical Archives of Belarus” (NIAB Director D. Yatsevich).
