State Archives of Brest Region present a series of expositions on 70th anniversary of the Victory

The State Archives of Brest Region has organized a series of expositions dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.

The exhibition of documents called “ Brest. Occupation. 1941-1944” shows more than 40 documents from the Brest city administration for 1941-1944, from the newspaper “Nashe slovo” that was published in Brest during the Nazi occupation. These are the first decrees and orders of the German occupation authorities; documents that illustrate the system of food supply of the city population, the occupation policy of forced labour and deportation to Germany, German propaganda posters calling for voluntary work in Germany; various applications from Brest residents to the City Council that give evidence of their disastrous state etc.

A separate exposition offers documents illustrating the aftermath of the war and the damage inflicted on Brest (records of the Brest regional commission for assistance to the Extraordinary State Commission for Investigation of Nazi Crimes and Damage).

A symbolic poster column shows advertisements, fragments of newspaper from various periods (before the war, during the occupation and the liberation of the city), pages of the regional newspaper “Zarya” dated 8, 11 and 13 May 1945 dedicated to the Victory Day.
