Documentary exhibition at the State Archives of Brest Region to celebrate the Archivist’s Day

An exhibition of documents, Archival Images of History was opened at the State Archives of Brest Region to mark the professional holiday of Belarusian archivists, which is celebrated on 6 October.

The exhibition presents non-traditional archive records selected from various archive holdings of different historical periods – maps, plans, advertisements, posters, playbills, photographs, passports, household books, cards, letters, telegrams, printed and music editions and other material.

In particular, the exhibits include the plans of Brest (1939, 1941), Berlin (1936), Warsaw (1938), the map of the Polessie voivodeship (1930s), the map of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (1940), the plan of the Traugutt gymnasium at Brest (now the old building of the Brest State University), slogans of the Communist Party of Western Belarus, an announcement of the Minister of Military Affairs of Poland on total mobilization of 31.08.1939, the early announcements of the German occupation authorities at Brest (July 1941), letters from the residents of Brest region who were taken into German captivity, playbills of the Brest Lenin Komsomol Russian Drama Theatre, and more.

In addition, the exhibition offers an exposition of rare books available from the reference library of the Archives (the 19th and early 20th centuries in Russian, Polish, English, French, German, Latin and Hebrew), dedicated to the Year of Book established by the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
