From Theory to Practice: National Historical Archives of Belarus Hosts «Unified Safety Day»
On September 23, 2026, the staff of the National Historical Archives of Belarus gathered for an event marking «Unified Safety Day». The meeting focused on emergency prevention and fostering a culture of workplace safety among employees.
Ruslan Kanopatsky, the archive’s Chief Engineer, addressed the staff. His presentation covered key aspects of fire safety within the facility, highlighting strict requirements for the use of electrical equipment in offices and storage areas, regulations regarding emergency exits, and procedures for the initial suppression of potential fires.
Lead Engineer Valery Tsimbrovsky provided a practical demonstration to complement the theoretical session. He showed staff a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, explaining its operating principles, how to activate it in an emergency, and the necessary safety precautions.
The meeting placed special emphasis on employee actions during emergencies. Ruslan Kanopatsky detailed the building evacuation plan, civil defense signals, and coordination procedures to be followed by staff prior to the arrival of Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) rescue teams. Discussions also covered measures to prevent workplace injuries, minimize risks, and ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety guidelines.
The theoretical portion of the meeting concluded with the screening of educational videos, after which staff members had the opportunity to ask the Chief and Lead Engineers questions about the topics discussed.
A practical drill to apply the knowledge gained is scheduled for September 24. On that day, the archive will conduct an evacuation exercise, allowing the staff to reinforce their skills in executing rapid, coordinated actions during emergency situations.
