On September 17, 2026, a ceremonial meeting dedicated to National Unity Day was held at the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Affairs (BelNIIDAD)

A.E. Rybakov, Director of BelNIIDAD, delivered a presentation on the significance of the events of September 1939—specifically the Red Army’s campaign and the subsequent reunification of Western Belarus with the BSSR—in the formation of Belarusian statehood. He emphasized that September 1939 marked the restoration of historical justice, uniting the Belarusian people who had been divided for the preceding 18 years. The unity restored in 1939 enabled Belarus to withstand the trials of the Great Patriotic War, secure an honored place in the international community, and become a co-founder of the United Nations.
