The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus participated in the exhibition project «Codius Librorum. Book Codes»
On June 16, 2026, the exhibition project «Codius Librorum. Book Codes» opened at the National Library of Belarus. It commemorated the 20th anniversary of the new building of the country’s main library, which has become an architectural and intellectual symbol of modern Belarus.
Representatives of the organizations that contributed their documents and materials for the exhibition took part in the event. These included the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, the Republican Unitary Enterprise «Belarusian House of Printing», the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the A.K.Glebov Minsk State Art College, the Minsk State Gymnasium-College of Arts, and the I.O.Akhremchik Gymnasium-College of Arts. The exhibition also featured art books by graphic artist F.M.Shurmilev and expressive sculptures by S.V. Galuza and E.A. Kolchev. This exhibition project is a profound journey into the history of national memory. Through its greatest treasure—the Book—the National Library of Belarus carefully preserves and reveals to the world the country’s unique literary, cultural, and historical heritage. The exhibition vividly reveals the key stages in the development of this premier library: from its early days as the university library of Belarusian State University to the scale of the Lenin State Library of the BSSR, which became the foundation of Belarus’s modern cultural identity.
The exhibition features over 250 exhibits, each a unique «code» of Belarusian culture.
The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus will present copies of archival documents at the exhibition: the schedule of Pushkin Evenings at the Lenin State Library of the BSSR; the Lenin State Library’s 1937 commitments; reader questionnaires; staffing; the Order of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Belarussian SSR on the creation of a commission for the distribution of books arriving from Germany in 1944; The National Library of Belarus is a representative of the Republic of Belarus and other documents.
The rich collection of the National Library of Belarus includes books with dedications from famous Belarusian writers, poets, and high-ranking Belarusian officials, antique gold-embossed bindings, facsimile books, and miniature books.
The exhibition also features elements of printing equipment used in book production—vintage metal fonts and printing plates—provided for the exhibition by the Belarusian House of Printing.
The exhibition features works by students from art schools. Sculptural compositions by renowned artists seamlessly complement the space, creating a vibrant dialogue between generations and transforming the exhibition into a harmonious fusion of intellectual heritage and contemporary art.
