Celebration of International Archives Day at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus

On June 12, 2026, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus held educational and practical events for the general public to celebrate International Archives Day.

On this day, guests were treated to an extensive program that allowed them not only to explore the archive’s collections but also to immerse themselves in the daily work of the custodians of the Belarusian state’s documentary heritage.

One of the key events of the celebration was a tour of the archive. Visitors had the opportunity to see how document storage is organized and to become familiar with authentic archival sources on the history of Belarus, many of which are of significant scientific and cultural significance. During the tour, O.Yu.Yurkevich, Head of the Information Retrieval Systems Department, spoke in detail about key aspects of the professional work of archivists, as well as the possibilities of using archive documents to study one’s family history. In addition, a practical workshop on archival file filing was held for all interested participants. O.V.Skomoroshchenko, Head of the Department of Scientific and Technical Document Processing, covered theoretical issues related to file filing and described the organization of work in accordance with the «Working Instructions for Binding Work at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus». T.I.Kurdeko, Lead Archivist of the Department of Scientific and Technical Document Processing, discussed the materials needed for filing and the requirements for them. Under the guidance of experienced archivists, participants were able to master one of the key professional skills necessary for ensuring proper document storage.

The events organized by the archive generated genuine interest among visitors, promoting archival work and fostering a respectful attitude toward the preservation of documentary heritage.
