Open Day at the State Archives of the Mogilev Region, dedicated to International Archives Day

Students from the Mogilev State College of Economics, Industrial, and Technology visited the State Archives of the Mogilev Region for the first time as part of an Open Day dedicated to International Archives Day.

The Day’s program was rich and allowed the guests to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the archival service.

The students took a tour of the archive storage facility, where they learned how strict temperature and humidity conditions are maintained, how mobile shelving is constructed, and how documents with unique historical value are stored.

Then, guests were treated to an exhibition of rare documents. Of particular interest were the filtration and verification files of citizens forcibly deported to Germany during the Great Patriotic War, as well as post-war issues of the regional newspaper «For Our Country», containing information on the restoration of peaceful life in Mogilev and the surrounding region.

A discussion on genealogical research was held in the reading room. Archivists explained which collections to start with when searching for family trees and how to properly work with inventories and databases.

The event concluded with a screening of the documentary «Hero Fortress», produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents.

The Open Day is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that the archive is a modern, accessible, and open information center, attracting not only professional researchers but also young people.
