Participation in the International Historical and Patriotic Project «Heroes of Defense. Tragedy and Feat!»
The final event of the International Historical and Patriotic Project «Heroes of Defense. Tragedy and Feat!» was held at the Mogilev Region Glory Museum.
It was organized by the E.R.Romanov Mogilev Regional Museum of Local History and the Federal State Budgetary Cultural Institution «Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945» (Moscow).
The event opened with an exhibition of documents and exhibits collected as part of the project. A separate stand was dedicated to documents commemorating the defenders of Mogilev in July 1941, from the collections of the State Archives of the Mogilev Region.
The central event of the day was a roundtable discussion entitled «The Defense of Mogilev and the Dnieper Line. July 1941». Participants included scholars, archaeologists, and museum workers from Bykhov, Minsk, Mogilev, Moscow, and Mstislav, as well as a significant delegation from the Tula Region. Among them were representatives of public associations, archives, museums, libraries, and Tula State University.
At the roundtable, Alexander Petukhov, a leading archivist in the Department of Scientific Use of Documents and Information at the State Archives of the Mogilev Region, presented a paper on «The Defense of Mogilev in 1941 in the Age of Commemoration: Objects, Actors, and Forms».
The event also included a meeting with Varvara Kirillovna Erokhina, the great-granddaughter of Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov (Moscow), and an awards ceremony for the winners of a children’s drawing competition.
The high level of organization of the event is noteworthy; the exhibition catalog and a collection of scientific articles from the roundtable were published in time for the final event.
