M.N.Skomoroshchenko’s Visit to the State Archives of the Gomel Region
On May 14, 2026, M.N.Skomoroshchenko, Head of the Ideological Support Department of the Personnel Policy and Ideological Support Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, and representatives of the Main Justice Department of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee visited the State Archives of the Gomel Region to learn about the archive’s activities, ideological work, and youth outreach. During the visit, the guests were presented with displays documenting the archive’s activities in organizing ideological work and youth outreach, as well as documents necessary for the ideologist’s work.
In the archive’s reading room, guests were shown an exhibition of filtration files of repatriated Soviet citizens deported to Germany for slave labor.
During the visit to the archive repository on ul. A tour was held at 23 Kosareva Street, where N.V.Sokolova, Head of the Department of Organizational, Methodological, Registration, and Archival Work of the Main Justice Department of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, described the reconstruction of the archival repository. The total area of the newly reconstructed facility exceeds 2,100 square meters. This has made it possible to secure the regional archive’s collection for decades to come. Archive Director Yu.V.Shestopalov explained the process of filling the archive, which is designed to hold 500,000 items, and the procedure for preparing for and transferring documents for permanent storage. Currently, the archive contains 40,000 items. The facility meets modern standards and technical requirements for the proper storage and use of documents.
At the inspection, a banner exhibition, «Unconquered Gomel Region», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Gomel’s liberation from Nazi invaders, was presented. The banner exhibition was created using documentary materials from museums and archives across Belarus.
