The State Archives of the Mogilev Region participated in a gala event honoring the winners of the third round of the Republican Olympiad in academic subjects

On May 14, 2026, a gala event honoring the winners of the third round of the Republican Olympiad in academic subjects was held at the Rodina Cinema. Talented and gifted students from city schools and their teachers attended.

In anticipation of the 85th anniversary of the defense of Mogilev, staff from the State Archives of the Mogilev Region presented a banner exhibition, «Looking Back to the Past», dedicated to the heroic events of July 1941.

Leading archivist of the Department of Scientific Use of Documents and Information, Alexey Shvyryov, spoke about the participants of the 23-day defense of Mogilev and the perpetuation of their memory. The streets and lanes of the regional center are named in honor of the city’s defenders: Major General Mikhail Romanov, commander of the 172nd Rifle Division and leader of the defense; Colonel Semyon Kutepov, commander of the 338th Rifle Regiment, which defended Buinichi Field; Captain Konstantin Vladimirov, commander of the police battalion that defended the city near the village of Gai; and others.

Archival documents help preserve the memory of the heroic past and, with the help of archivists, pass it on to future generations.
