The State Archives of the Minsk Region participated in an event marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster
On April 25, a regional event was held in Berezino to mark the 40th anniversary of the worst man-made disaster in the history of nuclear energy.
Among those gathered were representatives of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, the Berezino District Executive Committee, and districts of the Minsk Region, former liquidators, and young people.
The event aims to foster historical memory, civic responsibility, and environmental awareness in the younger generation through understanding the scale of the Chernobyl disaster, the example of the liquidators’ heroism, the restoration of life in the affected areas, and the role of the state in addressing the complex task of rehabilitating and restoring the affected areas.
The Berezino District Cultural Center hosted the presentation of the banner exhibition «April 26. Chernobyl Tragedy Remembrance Day», prepared by the State Archives of the Minsk Region. The banners showcase documents from the archive’s collections. The exhibition’s main goal is to preserve the memory of the tragedy, the courage of the liquidators, and the fate of the affected regions, and to understand the long-term consequences and fragility of peace.
During the event, the documentary film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy», provided by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (BSACFPD), was shown.
The Chernobyl disaster remains present in the lives of thousands of Belarusians, as part of their past and present.
