Screening of the film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy» in Novopolotsk Schools
On April 24, 2026, a screening of the documentary film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy» was held at Novopolotsk Secondary School No.1 and Novopolotsk Secondary School No.2. This film, based on unique materials from the collections of the Belarusian State Film and Photo Archive, allowed students to immerse themselves in the history of one of the most tragic events of the 20th century. (Incidentally, the children were impressed by the existence of a separate archive dedicated to this topic.)
After the film screening, the high school students participated in a discussion with Pavel Mikhailovich Safronov, an employee of the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk. Pavel Mikhailovich readily answered the students’ numerous questions regarding both the film’s content and the archive’s work in general. The schoolchildren were particularly interested in the documents stored in the archive. The high school students were also excited about the possibility of using archival materials for their own research. Pavel Mikhailovich provided a detailed explanation of the document access process and how archival materials can be a valuable addition to school projects and research.
