A Unified Information Day on «Chernobyl: From Recovery to Sustainable Development» at the Zonal State Archives in Lida
On April 16, 2026, the Zonal State Archives in Lida held a Unified Information Day on «Chernobyl: From Recovery to Sustainable Development». Archive Director S.G.Svirko reminded archivists of how the country over the past 40 years has dealt with the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, traversing the difficult path from a national environmental disaster to the recovery and restoration of life in the territories affected by the accident; and of the heroism of all those involved in the cleanup of this terrible tragedy.
As part of the Unified Information Day, the archive hosted a screening of the film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy», produced by the BSAKFFD.
On Chernobyl Tragedy Day, O.V.Ivanch, Head of the Document Preservation and Scientific Archives Department, presented a virtual exhibition, «Chernobyl – a Tragedy of the 20th Century». Oksana Viktorovna’s father, Viktor Yakovlevich Shein, participated in the cleanup of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Their family knows firsthand the terrible days following the accident, which irrevocably changed the lives of their loved ones, and the heroism of their relatives and fellow countrymen who participated in the cleanup.
