On the participation of the Zonal State Archives in Orsha in the opening of the exhibition project «Leaving on a Mission»
On March 5, 2026, Maria Nikulina, Head of the Document Management Department of the State Archives in Orsha, and Yulia Gryadovka, First Category Archivist, participated in the opening of the exhibition project «Leaving on a Mission», prepared by the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union M.F.Shmyrev. The event was held at the Military History Museum named after Hero of the Soviet Union K.S.Zaslonov.
During the Great Patriotic War, Belarusian women, alongside men, actively participated in combat operations, fought in the rear, survived in the occupation zone, toiled for victory, fought on the battlefield, formed their own artillery units and flight squadrons, carried wounded soldiers from the battlefield, blew up bridges, conducted reconnaissance missions, and piloted aircraft and tanks. Women wrote many glorious pages in the history of the heroic struggle. Many patriotic women of the Motherland have been immortalized in historical literature and fiction, but even more remain unknown. This project reveals little-known but incredibly important chapters of this heroic history. The exhibition dedicated to the heroines of the partisan movement of the Surazh partisan zone not only presents unique documents but also offers the opportunity to hear the voices of those whose names are forever associated with their unbending will and love for their land.
The «Leaving on a Mission» exhibition project is more than just an exhibition; it is a tribute of deep respect and recognition to those who, with their courage and sacrifice, forged a peaceful sky above our heads.
