Roundtable Discussion at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) Dedicated to the 120th Anniversary of N.N.Ulashchik
On February 13, 2026, a roundtable discussion was held at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMLI) dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Belarusian archeographer Nikolai Nikolaevich Ulashchik. N.N.Ulashchik was a scholar of many fields—historian, bibliographer, cultural scholar, and local history expert—but working with archives and searching for Belarusian archival materials always remained his priority. The roundtable discussion was attended by BSAMLI Leading Researcher D.S.Samokhvalov, source scholars M.F.Shumeiko, V.F.Golubev, and A.L.Kishtymov, bibliographer T.I.Zhuk, and graphic artist N.N.Kupava.
BSAMLI Director E.A.Makarenko delivered a welcoming speech. T.I.Zhuk spoke about the collection of N.N.Ulashchik’s documents at the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library. This is currently the main collection. D.S.Samokhvalov presented documents related to N.N.Ulashchik held in the BGAMLI collections. Epistolary sources constitute a significant portion of these. Source researchers M.F.Shumeiko, V.F.Golubev, and A.L.Kishtymov recalled N.N.Ulashchik’s collaborations with other Belarusian scholars, literary figures, and artists. Particularly noteworthy was the presentation by N.N.Kupava, who personally knew the hero of the day and made bookplates for him.
Memorial events for N.N.Ulashchik will continue at the BGAMLI throughout the year. The most significant event is expected to be the scholarly archival readings dedicated to the memory of N.N.Ulashchik, scheduled for the fall of 2026.
