The Krichev Zonal State Archives Institution at the events of the national «Archives for School» campaign

On February 13, 2026, as part of the national «Archives for School» campaign, a thematic discussion entitled «While We Remember, We Live» was held for 5B students of Krichev Secondary School No.8. A poster exhibition was prepared and held to commemorate Internationalist Warrior Remembrance Day and the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.

Victoria Kondratenko told the students that February 15 is Internationalist Warrior Remembrance Day.

The Afghan War lasted from December 25, 1979, to February 15, 1989, a total of 2,238 days. It was a tragedy for families, a nation, and an entire generation, scorched by a war that could have been avoided. This war has no history or witnesses yet. The country that sent its soldiers to carry out an international mission on foreign soil no longer exists, but the pain and memories of those events are still alive in the memories and hearts of loved ones, combat veterans, and those who care about the grief of others.

30,000 Belarusians served in Afghanistan, 789 died, 1,500 returned from the war disabled, 290 died after returning from the war (this figure grows every day), and 13 Belarusian citizens went missing in action while serving in the line of duty.

This tragedy did not bypass the Krichevsky District. 120 young men passed through the fires of Afghanistan. Seven of them lost their lives forever in that senseless war, although their bodies were received by the native land they so loved.

The soldiers were shown a poster exhibition, «Afghanistan: Memory in Faces», and given a tour of the archives.
