The exhibition’s curator, leading archivist at BGAMLI, Natalia Mizon, commented on the selected materials and explained the principles by which they were systematized to present the most complete and vivid image of the outstanding writer.
Ivan Melezh’s works are deeply imbued with the truth of life, reflecting difficult periods in history, the power of the human spirit, and an unwavering faith in ideals, making his work relevant to any sphere of public life. The exhibition «Chronicle of Life and Truth» allows you to immerse yourself in the writer’s world, discovering unknown chapters of his biography and work through the lens of unique archival documents.
The exhibition draws on the rich collections of the Belarusian State Academy of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) and presents biographical documents, including photographs and letters, revealing important moments in Ivan Pavlovich’s life and his development as an individual and artist. Of particular interest are materials related to his participation in the Great Patriotic War. One of the central elements of the exhibition is his creative documents, in particular, the manuscripts of the legendary novel «People in the Swamp», a work that has become a classic of Belarusian literature. Here you can see the author’s edits and notes, testifying to the painstaking work that went into creating the text. The exhibition is complemented by photographs from the filming of the television play of the same name, «People in the Swamp».
The «Chronicle of Life and Truth» exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for lovers of Belarusian literature to connect with living history and pay tribute to Ivan Melezh, whose legacy continues to inspire new generations.
