The National Historical Archives of Belarus has prepared and published a virtual exhibition dedicated to Count N.P.Rumyantsev (1754-1826), a statesman of the Russian Empire and owner of the Gomel estate.
Nikolai Petrovich Rumyantsev was Chancellor of the Russian Empire, the first Chairman of the State Council, a philanthropist, and a patron of science and the arts. N.P.Rumyantsev made a significant contribution to the development of Gomel as a European city in the early 19th century. The collections of the National Historical Archives of Belarus contain documents related to the history of the Gomel estate, which belonged to the Counts Rumyantsev and Paskevich. The exhibition displays documents from 1776 to 1820, including a waiver book for the Gomel estate, correspondence regarding the opening of educational institutions in Gomel, the first pharmacy, and a plan of Gomel Castle.
