A Patriotic Hour was held at the Gomel Region Public Associations Archive
On December 2, 2025, a patriotic hour was held for students of Secondary School No.19 at the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region. It was dedicated to the Day of Liberation of Gomel from Nazi Invaders.
The event discussed the history of Gomel’s liberation, based on archival documents. Students learned about the memoirs of World War II veterans who participated in the city’s defense and reviewed the personal files of members of the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment and Heroes of the Soviet Union.
As part of the meeting, archivists organized a screening of the documentary film «Liberation», produced by the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Documentation Archive, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarus’s liberation from Nazi invaders.
A pleasant surprise for the students was the donation by Archive Director Irina Vladimirovna Zhineva of copies of the personal files of the school’s first principals, Elizaveta Markovna Katelyanskaya and Lev Stepanovich Kuzhelev, found in the state archives.
The event concluded with a visit to the archival document exhibition «Witnesses of History», dedicated to the liberation of Gomel from Nazi invaders, and a tour of the archives.
