On the eve of Gomel Liberation Day, a memory lesson was held at the Gomel Region Public Associations Archive

On November 24, 2025, in anticipation of the 82nd anniversary of Gomel’s Liberation Day, staff from the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region held a memory lesson, «They Fought for Gomel», for students from Gomel Secondary School No.3 named after D.N.Penyazkov and the Gomel State Culinary College.

The main theme of the event was studying the history of Gomel’s liberation in archival documents. Students studied the personal files of members of the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment, the memoirs of World War II veterans who participated in the defense of Gomel, and the personal files of Heroes of the Soviet Union.

As part of the meeting, archivists organized a screening of the documentary film «Liberation», produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarus’s liberation from Nazi invaders.

The event concluded with a presentation of the archival document exhibition «Witnesses of History», dedicated to the liberation of Gomel from Nazi invaders, and a tour of the archives.
