On the Conducting of Classes for Students of the Minsk City Institute for Education Development at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus
On October 30, 2025, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign, classes were held for students of the Minsk City Institute for Education Development at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter NARB).
NARB Deputy Director E.A.Stukanova addressed the staff of Minsk educational institutions with a welcoming speech. Elena Alexandrovna described the structure of the archival sector in the Republic of Belarus and the main areas of archive activity today. In her speech, she also emphasized the importance of collaboration between archives and educational institutions in strengthening the methodological, theoretical, and pedagogical foundation.
NARB Head of the Personal Collections Department I.V.Dorogush conducted a class on the topic «Archives – a Repository of Historical Memory». Inessa Vladimirovna discussed the archive’s history, the composition and preservation features of its documents, its work in publishing and exhibition activities, and the potential use of archival documents in competitive research papers and projects using artificial intelligence. During the lecture, special attention was paid to the NARB’s work in implementing the «Archives for Schools» campaign. I.V. Dorogush spoke about the events the archive hosts for schoolchildren and employees of educational institutions in the Republic of Belarus and answered questions.
As part of the archive’s events marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, history and social studies teachers were treated to a screening of the National Archives’ video project «We Remember…». I.V.Dorogush also gave a discussion on the history of the partisan movement and presented the personal files of the command staff of partisan detachments and brigades, award certificates, photographs, and other documents. After the classes, the students visited the archives of personal collections, where they examined documents from the personal archives of government, party, and public figures, as well as participants in the Great Patriotic War.
Conducting educational activities for schoolchildren and teachers in the state archives of Belarus using archival documents facilitates the development and implementation of new educational methods and new areas of work for state archival institutions in our republic.
