BGAMLI at the opening of the exhibition «Andrei Bembel. Along the Roads of the Era» at the National Art Museum

On October 30, 2025, staff of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) took part in the grand opening of the exhibition «Andrei Bembel. Along the Roads of the Era», dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of People’s Artist of the BSSR, laureate of the BSSR State Prize, professor, sculptor, and veteran of the Great Patriotic War Andrei Onufrievich Bembel (1905–1986). The exhibition was prepared jointly with the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

This event brought together a large number of guests—representatives of the cultural community, art historians, and admirers of Andrei Bembel’s work. In her opening remarks, BGAMLI Director E.A. Makarenko emphasized not only the renowned sculptor’s outstanding contribution but also the special role of archival documents as an indispensable source for studying his work.

The exhibition features sculptures from the collection of the National Art Museum and the artist’s family, as well as documents and photographs from the BGAMLI and family archives, photographs and video sketches from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, photographs from the Petrus Brovka Literary Museum branch, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, and the archives of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency.

The exhibition space is complemented by paintings, graphic works, and sculptures of Andrei Bembel and his family members, created by the artist’s fellow artists, from the art museum’s collection.

BGAMLI’s participation in joint projects with the National Art Museum is an important area in popularizing archival collections and preserving our country’s cultural heritage.
