A Workshop for Archivist Students from the History Department of Belarusian State University on Working with Personal Collections at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art

On October 30, 2025, the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art held a workshop on «Organizing Work with Personal Collections in the State Archives of the Republic of Belarus» for fourth-year full-time students majoring in archival science at the History Department of the Belarusian State University.

E.A. Makarenko, Director of the Archives and Museum, presented the theoretical aspects of organizing work with personal collections. O.F. Shatalova, Head of the Department for Scientific Description of Personal Documents, demonstrated the process of scientifically describing these documents, focusing on the challenges involved in implementing this process.

L.Yu. Studinskaya, Lead Archivist of the Document Preservation Department, demonstrated all types of primary and secondary records generated by the archives and museum. Using the People’s Poet of Belarus Foundation as an example, A.A. Kuleshov discussed the specifics of receiving and recording documents and files of personal origin.

Leading archivist of the Information Retrieval Systems and Automated Archival Technologies Department E.A. Lukina focused on document cataloging and the creation of a user collection for them.

Familiarizing future specialists with the practical aspects of working with personal records will help them develop their skills and abilities in this category of records.
