Mother’s Day is celebrated in the Republic of Belarus on October 14. The history of this holiday is rooted in the religious holiday of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin. This holiday is intended to uphold the tradition of respect for women, strengthen family values, and emphasize the importance of the most important person in our lives – our mother.

Father’s Day is celebrated in the Republic of Belarus on October 21. This holiday was established for a reason, as preserving traditional family values and ensuring the full development of a person requires the combined efforts of both parents. It symbolizes the importance of the paternal role in the family, society, and the upbringing of the younger generation.

The period between these two dates is called Parental Love Week.

Family is not only a value but also the social fabric of society. Parents play a vital role in its formation and existence. They play a constructive role, instilling values in their children, which, in turn, strengthens the family’s prestige and leads to the full development of society and the state.

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter NARB) presents the exhibition «The Crown of All Values – Family», featuring unique family heirlooms belonging to the archive’s staff, carefully preserved for many years and passed down from generation to generation: a 19th-century samovar, a 1909 cookbook, a stamp album, candlesticks, handmade embroideries and tablecloths, a coffee grinder, and much more.

The family, as the fundamental element of society, has been and remains the guardian of human values, culture, and historical continuity between generations, a factor in stability and development. A person’s life begins with the family; it is here that they are formed as citizens. In the Republic of Belarus, the utmost attention is paid to addressing the problems of family, motherhood, and childhood, and to creating conditions for improving the quality of life for every citizen.
