Personal Data and Its Processing Principles: Molodechno Archivists Discussed Legal Aspects of Information Protection
A webinar entitled «Personal Data: Legal Regulation and Application in 2025» was held at the Molodechno Zonal State Archives. Vladimir Losev, a licensed lawyer, candidate of legal sciences, associate professor, doctor of philosophy in law, and professor at the Belarusian State University of Economics, delivered the topical lecture. Olga Dvoretskaya, head of the archive’s Department of Document Preservation, State Records, and Scientific Reference Apparatus, served as the official audience member. Employees of the institution whose work directly involves the processing of personal data also joined the viewing.
The webinar provided a refresher on current Belarusian legislation on personal data protection, including the provisions of the Law «On the Protection of Personal Data», the Constitution, and international norms. Particular attention was paid to the principles of legality, integrity, and security.
Every organization, including archives, processes information about its employees on a daily basis: personnel records, medical certificates, salary information, travel records, and training. This data is subject to legislation and requires adherence to the principles of confidentiality, restricted access, and legal use. Furthermore, archivists constantly work with documents containing citizens’ personal data—biographical and socio-legal inquiries, prosecutorial records, documents from executive committees at various levels, and more. Protecting personal data is not just a legal obligation, but a sign of respect for individuals, their rights, and their privacy.
Viewing the webinar was a step toward improving the legal literacy of archive employees. Participation in such training events strengthens the legal culture of the team and helps build trust with citizens.
