Wartime Documents from the Zonal State Archives in Rechitsa

The Rechitsa State Archives permanently houses the personal collection of Dmitry Fyodorovich Bonadyk, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and a resident of Rechitsa. Among his documents, notable are the letters and postcards Bonadyk sent from the front to his young daughter, Lida. These letters, written in verse, express the author’s love for his family and, as Soviet troops advanced on Germany, they increasingly filled him with faith in a swift victory over fascism and the soldier’s return home.

One of the letters (F.831. Op.1. D.5. L.9) contains the following lines:

«The hour is not far off, we will finish them off,
But the last battle will be difficult,
And you help me and Mom,
And this battle will be the last.

in a front-line dugout.
Your dad, D.Bonadyk»
