Paleographic practice of students of the Faculty of History of BSU in the National Historical Archives of Belarus

From June 30 to July 18, 2025, the National Historical Archives of Belarus hosted a paleographic practice of students of the Faculty of History of BSU. The main goal of the practice is to acquire practical skills in working with archival handwritten documents of the 16th – 17th centuries.

Under the guidance of the deputy head of the department of ancient acts Elena Doroshenko and associate professor of the department of source studies of the Faculty of History of BSU, candidate of historical sciences Andrei Latushkin, students learned to read archival documents in the Old Belarusian language, filled in tables of graphic forms of letters of the Cyrillic alphabet, compiled a dictionary of historical concepts, identified and described watermarks (filigree), and formulated headings for documents.
