On holding a cybersecurity event at the State Archives of the Gomel Region

On June 16, 2025, a lecture and a documentary film about the prevention of crimes in the field of information and communication technologies were held for the archive employees at the State Archives of the Gomel Region.

The head of the department for the prevention of cybercrimes and cyber fraud, Ilya Sergeevich Sazonov, spoke about corruption and crimes committed in the field of information technology.

During the meeting, information was discussed about common methods of cyber fraud, as well as about responsibility for committing crimes under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

Ilya Sergeevich explained the methods of cyber fraud, the purpose of which is to steal money, carry out banking transactions, etc. For example, attackers use telephone communication, posing as employees of various government agencies. Under various pretexts, they find out the victims’ personal information – logins, passwords, passport details, bank card numbers, SMS codes. Often, attackers use instant messengers, which allow the use of virtual numbers.

One of the methods of fraud by attackers is fraud on trading platforms. Posting an ad for the sale of any goods at favorable prices, for the purchase of which it is necessary to follow a link to a fake site, transfer an advance payment and other actions.

Fraudsters also exert psychological pressure on the victim by threatening financial losses if they do not provide the required information. Criminals use these and other tricks to introduce the victim into a state of uncertainty and fear. In a state of stress, it is easy to convince the victim to make financial transactions.

Special attention was paid to the issues of preventing crimes in the field of information technology. Practical advice was discussed on how not to become a victim of cybercriminals.

At the end of the meeting, Ilya Sergeevich Sazonov spoke about the rules of safe behavior on the Internet.
