Preservation of historical memory and career guidance for young people: as part of the international archive week, employees of the Zonal State Archive in Molodechno held meetings with campers and organized film lectures in Volozhin

In the anniversary year of the Great Victory, archivists of the Zonal State Archive in Molodechno held a series of screenings in the Volozhin «Youth», presenting the film «The History of the Great Victory», created by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (BSACFPD).

The audience was made up of campers, which emphasized the importance of working with young people in preserving historical memory. Archivist Maria Mechkovskaya spoke in detail about the stages of the film’s creation, paying special attention to the work of front-line cameramen, their fearlessness and dedication in capturing the real events of the war. Special emphasis was placed on the significance of the Victory and the feat of the heroes, whose stories have been preserved in archival documents and military chronicles.

Before the screening, Olga Berezovskaya, an archivist at the Document Use and Publication Department, gave a historical overview of the genocide of the Belarusian people. Her presentation helped those present to better understand the scale of the tragedy and the value of preserving the historical truth. The importance of this event is hard to overestimate.

Archivists are not only the guardians of the past, but also a link between history and the modern generation. Thanks to their work, unique documentary footage remains available for study and rethinking.

The interest and active participation of young people in discussing the film prove that the themes of memory and historical truth remain relevant. In turn, the management of the Yunost Cinema in Volozhin expressed interest in further cooperation, and a number of subsequent screenings dedicated to various historical topics are already planned. Such an initiative expands joint opportunities in disseminating knowledge, forms respect for the past in young people and inspires further study of history through documentary evidence.
