Archival readings «Memory. History. People» as part of the International Archives Week

On June 10, 2024, archival readings «Memory. History. People» were held in Polotsk, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the 100th anniversary of the Polotsk Local History Society. It has become a good tradition for the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk to hold archival readings as part of the International Archives Week. This time they were held at the Local History Museum.

The director of the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk, Lyudmila Viktorovna Lazarenok, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

The readings were attended by archivists, museum workers, educational institutions and local historians, who presented a number of interesting reports. Among the topics of the speeches were: «Journalist, artist and local historian Vladimir Ivanovich Likhachev», «The functioning of the Polotsk customs in the 1920s», «Museum, archive, family – three components of the process of preserving historical memory», «Ermak Nadezhda Platonovna – veteran of the Great Patriotic War, honored teacher of the BSSR, poetess», «Polotsk citizen with a capital letter Anna Mikhailovna Lebedeva», «The life of a soldier», «Operation «Star»: through the prism of time», as well as «Franciszak Budzka: saint, cultural and educational student, carrier».

The event was also attended by students of the Polotsk State Forestry College, who actively participate in the archival campaigns «Archives for School» and «Young Archivist». Debutants Lobkis Karina and Kudryashova Arina acted as researchers for the first time and were awarded with gratitude for their efforts.

Summarizing, the participants noted the importance of regularly holding archival readings with broad public involvement, which helps preserve historical memory and actively involve young people in studying the history of their region.
