Remembrance Day: Patriotism Lesson at Secondary School No.2 in Rechitsa
On April 24, 2025, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign, the «School of Active Citizen» project and Remembrance Day dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the Rechitsa State Archives held a patriotism lesson at Secondary School No.2 in Rechitsa.
The topic of the first part of the lesson was «Doctor Khluss – a man and a street». Rechitsa archivists told students in grades 8-9 about the archive’s founder – surgeon, Honored Doctor of the BSSR Porfiry Matveyevich Khluss, after whom a street in Rechitsa is named. His path in the civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic War, his contribution as a doctor to the Victory over fascism and to the healthcare system of Belarus were described in detail. The students were presented with documents of P.M. Khluss on the assignment of the titles «Honored Doctor of the BSSR» and «Honorary Citizen of Rechitsa», newspaper publications, a certificate of completion of the medical institute, etc.
The second part of the lesson was held in the form of a film session. At it, the young audience was shown the documentary film «History of the Great Victory», prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents based on newsreel materials and illustrating the Great Patriotic War, starting with the German attack and ending with the Battle of Berlin.
