On the participation of the Deputy Director of NARB in the International Round Table in Polotsk
On April 17-18, the III International Round Table «Not Subject to Oblivion» was held at the Euphrosyne of Polotsk State University of Polotsk, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The organizer of the forum was the Euphrosyne of Polotsk State University of Polotsk, and one of the co-organizers was the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB). The event was attended by leading scholars in the history of the Great Patriotic War from Belarus, as well as specialists from Moscow and St.Petersburg.
The rector of the university, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Yu.Ya.Romanovsky addressed the forum participants with a welcoming speech. He emphasized the importance of holding this round table on a systematic basis, and also drew attention to the active participation of student youth in the event and their growing interest in the history of the Great Patriotic War.
Deputy Director of NARB, PhD in History S.V.Kulinok in his welcoming speech noted the close cooperation between the archive and the Polotsk University in organizing scientific forums, exhibition and publishing projects. He also presented the Honorary Diploma of the NARB to the Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work of the Polotsk University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk, PhD in History, Associate Professor A.I.Korsak.
As part of the dialogue platform «Nazi Genocide of the Belarusian People: Historical Understanding and Judicial Practice», experts who study the problems of studying the Great Patriotic War, preserving historical memory and participate in the investigation of the case of the genocide of the Belarusian people, raised important issues: the use of terminology and concepts; verification of archival sources and their introduction into scientific circulation and the preservation of historical memory.
As part of the round table, the opening of the traveling tablet exhibition «Memory is Needed by the Living!» took place, dedicated to the tragedy of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition was presented by the Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work A.I.Korsak and the Deputy Director of the NARB S.V.Kulinok.
The stands present official documents provided by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, as well as photographs and statistical data that provide an opportunity to better understand the consequences of the occupation, when many cities and villages were destroyed and millions of people lost their lives.
The forum ended with a youth discussion platform «Memory of Generations» as part of public lectures by leading experts. The moderator of the platform was the Deputy Director of the NARB S.V.Kulinok.
