A lecture on the Belarusian offensive operation «Bagration» with a screening of the film «Liberation of Belarus», prepared by BGAKFFD, was held for the staff of Construction and Assembly Train No.169 of the Branch of JSC «Dorstroimontazhtrest»
The largest strategic offensive operation in the history of Belarus «Bagration» took place from June 23 to August 29, 1944. As a result, the Red Army forces advanced to the west by more than 600 km. Belarus, as well as part of the Baltic States and the eastern regions of Poland, were completely liberated from the enemy.
The operation began on June 22. Soviet troops began reconnaissance in force. At the same time, partisans operating in the German rear raided all the most important enemy communications.
The main assault on German positions from the north and south began on June 23. The very next day, in the north, divisions of the 1st Baltic Front and the 3rd Belorussian Front surrounded Vitebsk, and then Orsha. On June 26 and 27, both cities were liberated. On July 4, Soviet troops occupied Polotsk.
In the southern direction, on June 27, the forces of the 1st Belorussian Front surrounded and completely destroyed the enemy group two days later. The 2nd Belorussian Front crossed the Dnieper and liberated Mogilev from the enemy on June 28.
The German front in the Belorussian direction began to fall apart.
As a result of decisive actions, the capital of our republic, Minsk, was liberated from Nazi occupation on July 3. The 4th Army of the Wehrmacht found itself in the cauldron, which was liquidated on July 11.
During the same period, the 2nd Belorussian Front successfully carried out the Belostock and Osovets offensive operations, liberating Grodno (July 16) and Belostok (July 27). In Brest (liberated on July 28), several enemy divisions were encircled.
Thus, Soviet troops reached the state border of the USSR.
