About the opening of a virtual exhibition in the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation
On April 12, the Republic of Belarus and a number of other countries annually celebrate Cosmonautics Day – a memorable date established in honor of the world’s first human flight into space. On this day, in 1961, a citizen of the Soviet Union, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, on the Vostok-1 spacecraft, made an orbital flight around the Earth, opening a new era in the history of mankind – the era of manned cosmonautics. This feat became a symbol of scientific and technological progress and proof of the practical feasibility of ideas that had long been considered utopian.
Space has become a space not only for scientific discoveries, but also a new cultural dimension. Cosmonautics Day has acquired the status of a holiday of scientific thought, engineering genius and human courage. In honor of this event, the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation has prepared a small exhibition of archival documents deposited in the personal funds of Belarusian architects A.E.Friedman, Z.I.Ozerova, E.K.Dyatlov, academicians A.S.Rubanov and P.I.Alsmik, presented in the form of photographs of meetings with Soviet cosmonauts – Yuri Gagarin, German Titov, Vladimir Kovalenok. The exhibition is also complemented by documents from fund No.307 «Collection of documents of the Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Protection of Historical Monuments and Architects», dedicated to Pyotr Klimuk.
