Another information and methodological lesson in the Central Laboratory – Mold: what is dangerous and how to fight it?

In the state institution «Central Laboratory for Ensuring the Preservation of Documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus» great importance is attached to ideological work, as well as work to improve the professional skills of employees.

Along with the use of the mentoring institution, another effective method is widely used – information and methodological lessons, where after informing about events in the country and the world, the most experienced employees of the laboratory introduce their colleagues to highly specialized aspects of ensuring the preservation of archival documents.

A recent lesson was devoted to an insidious enemy that lies in wait not only for archival documents, but also for our health in everyday life – mold. Head of the Hygienic Cleaning and Disinfection of Documents Sector S.I.Naumenko gave an educational presentation to employees, revealing all the secrets of mold: from its essence and habitats to the methods of reproduction, gastronomic preferences, potential harm and methods of combating it.

«Mold fungi are not just an annoying defect that disfigures the appearance of premises or documents. This is a threat to the safety of documents and the health of those who work with them. You should not wait until the mold shows itself in all its glory. Only a comprehensive approach, including microclimate control and competent disinfection, will minimize the risks», the microbiologist emphasized in her speech.
