International Theatre Day as part of a joint project with the Republic of Tatarstan «Day in History»

As part of the celebration of International Theatre Day, the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) and the State Committee of Archives of the Republic of Tatarstan continue their cooperation in the project «Day in History» and present archival materials related to outstanding figures of the theatre.

The celebration of World Theatre Day was first held in 1961 on the initiative of the International Theatre Institute (ITI). Since then, it has been celebrated annually on March 27 by theatres, theatre figures, theatre lovers, theatre universities and schools.

BGAMLI, as the largest archive of literature and art in Belarus, stores not only personal funds of famous theatre figures, but also documents of entire theatre companies. These are letters, photographs, posters, performance programs, minutes of artistic councils, lists of theatre workers and other materials that are of great value for studying the history of the Belarusian theatre.

On the eve of the International Theatre Day, BGAMLI presents unique documents from the collection of the actress, People’s Artist of the USSR Alexandra Ivanovna Klimova.

The family collection of A.I.Klimova and her husband A.V.Korsakovsky (Dushechkin) contains photo documents from a tour as part of the troupe of the State Russian Drama Theatre of the BSSR in 1963 to Kazan. This is a photograph of the Kazan Bolshoi Drama Theatre, where the tour of Belarusian actors took place, as well as personal photographs from the everyday life of the creative family. In the presented pictures you can see his little son Andryusha – the future actor of the NADT named after M. Gorky, playing in the courtyard of the theatre, where his parents, A.I.Klimova, performed, with a family friend, artist, director K.L.Kulakov during the tour.

On the International Theatre Day, we remember those who created the theatrical history of our country and dedicated their lives to the stage.
