Participation of BGAMLI in the event dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan and the memory of those killed in Afghanistan

On February 14, 2025, employees of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI), headed by Director Elena Aleksandrovna Makarenko, took part in the event dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan and the memory of those killed in Afghanistan, which took place in the National Memorial Complex «Temple-Monument in Honor of All Saints and in Memory of the Victims Who Served to Save Our Fatherland».

The litia in the Crypt for those killed in Afghanistan was conducted by the cleric of the parish of the Church in Honor of All Saints, Archpriest Alexei Vasin.

The opening speech to the participants of the event was addressed by Guard Colonel, Chairman of the Council of the Minsk City Organization of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan «Memory» Vladimir Ilyich Shokov.

The concert program featured the internationalist soldier, Colonel Dmitry Senko with the songs «Wars of Generations» and «Meeting with God». Laureate of national and international competitions Alexander Volodchenko performed «Dark Night» and «Prayer». The songs «Mama» and «Rodina» were performed by the representative of the Minsk Cultural and Educational Armenian Society Ani Govorgyan.

At the end of the event, a sightseeing tour of the Temple-Monument and the permanent exhibition «Museum of Memory» took place.

They say that history teaches: it teaches not to repeat the mistakes of previous generations, it teaches to prevent tragedies. I want to believe! And make every possible effort so that our descendants build a common successful future using the lessons of the past, without losing their loved ones and children.
