On the participation of the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» in the dialogue platform within the framework of the «Archives to School» campaign

On February 12, 2025, the director of the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» Yuri Shestopalov, within the framework of the «Archives to School» project, took part in the dialogue platform, which was dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers in the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75 of Gomel». The event was also attended by Pavel Mukhiyanov, head of military-patriotic education, Anton Shevchenko, member of the public association «Veterans of Military Intelligence», Vladimir Zaglada, a special forces soldier-internationalist of the GRU, Anton Ermoolenko, a history teacher at Secondary School No.75.

Speaking as an expert, the director of the archive Yuri Shestopalov told the students that February 15 is the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers in Belarus. The memory of the people who took part in the difficult Afghan war is immortalized by the decree of the President of Belarus in March 1998. About 30 thousand soldiers – privates and officers went through the crucible of the Afghan war, of which 735 people did not return home. We are obliged to remember our heroes who defended the southern borders and fulfilled their international duty.

Guests – participants in the Afghan war, shared their memories of distant military events with the students and answered the questions asked. The students presented the soldiers with memorable gifts and thanked the participants of the Afghan war for their service.

Summing up, the participants of the event once again reminded the children that the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers is a tribute to all those who fought and died, who returned but did not live to see this day, for whom the words duty and honor were the most important in life.
