On the participation of the State Archives of the Gomel Region in the event «Fates of the Children of War» of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75 of Gomel»
On December 9, 2024, Senior Researcher of the State Archives of the Gomel Region Maya Valentinovna Vaschenko took part in a single memory lesson «Fates of the Children of War» in Secondary School No.75 of Gomel, dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide.
M.V.Vaschenko told the students about the «Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide», adopted on December 9, 1948. In 2015, the UN General Assembly proclaimed this date the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the Convention and honor the memory of people who became victims of genocide. Genocide is a crime that violates international law and against which the parties to the Convention undertake to take measures to prevent and punish its commission.
The event was held in the form of an active dialogue with students. A video was shown about underage prisoners of a children’s camp in the village of «Krasny Bereg» in the Zhlobin district. It is everyone’s duty to sacredly preserve the memory of the dead.
At the end of the unified lesson, the participants honored the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.
