Archival practice of students of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank

In the period from October 7 to 18, 2024, on the basis of the state institution «National Historical Archive of Belarus», the archival part of the educational archive-museum practice of students of the 2nd year of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank, studying in the specialty «Historical Education» took place . During the internship, the students met with the administration of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, got acquainted with the history, structure, composition of the funds, functions of the institution’s departments, measures to ensure the preservation of documents and the work of archives. Two classes were held for trainees on the topic «Main types of documentary sources in the funds of the National Historical Archive of Belarus».

Within the framework of individual tasks, interns were involved in performing such types of archival work as searching for documents with the help of the archive’s scientific reference apparatus, scanning archival documents, creating a scientific search apparatus for the record book of the Slonim Zemstvo court of the 18th century, searching for biographical data when fulfilling requests for social – of a legal nature, identification and description of photographic materials in the funds of educational institutions of Mogilev, etc.

During the practice, the students got a comprehensive idea of the activities of the archive and valuable experience of working with original documents, evaluated the possibilities of using the materials of the National Archives of Belarus in educational, scientific and excursion-local history work.
